Newsletter Update Each year, ASH publishes a printed newsletter which details among other things, a report on activity in the sanctuary to date. This is a transcript of that letter.
Started in 2001, ASH completed its full years activities in October 2002. During that time 243 dogs and puppies were rescued and cared for, of whom 215 were found caring new homes. Before any animal is rehomed from ASH it is wormed and vaccinated, all adult female dogs are spayed and all cats are spayed or neutered. ASH accepts dogs from the public to prevent them being sent to a dog pound there they face certain death at the end of five days. ASH works in close co-operation with SPCAs, private rescue centres and groups throughout the country and via the Internet worldwide. The website receives on average, 2000 visits per day, many of which result in animals going to good homes in Ireland and Europe. ASH is very involved with the work of V.I.C.A.S. promoting the spaying and neutering programme and supporting every effort to reduce the horrifying numbers (24,000-30,000) of healthy and young dogs needlessly destroyed every year in this country. During the first four of this year, a further 120 dogs have been taken into ASH of whom 114 have been rehomed to date. This year ASH has received generous donations from The Humane Society of the United States, The Department of Agriculture, the I.S.P.C.A and the Animal Trust Fund. This has allowed us to improve the conditions under which animals can be kept and cared for and allowed for more animals to be brought into the sanctuary and thus given a secure future. We are most grateful to these organisations for their support. Thanks too are due to the very many individuals who so loyally support our fundraising events. Without your help this essential work cold not continue. Please continue to give us your support. The animals are depending on you. Blankets and towels are always needed and we should be grateful for any that you can spare. Your support is greatly appreciated by ASH and the animals in its care.
Thank you !
