Adopting from Ash Animal Rescue

Thank you so much for considering adoption and for thinking of ASH and our animals.  Many of our animals are here through no fault of their own and are hoping for a second chance, others are just hoping someone will come to offer them their first chance at life and a loving new home.

We have to take many things into consideration when matching an animal with a future owner and it is essential that we do everything we can to make the right match and ensure that the animal and its new owner will share a lifetime of happiness together.

If you have seen an animal on our website or Social Media that you would like to meet and hopefully adopt we advise you to follow the following steps:

Step 1: Send an email

Send us an email describing the sort of home you could give the pet. Don't forget to include your phone number to arrange an appointment. We will process all emails in order of receipt. Because we often receive a huge number of emails per animal, we only contact successful applicants. We only have a small team of staff and are always incredibly busy, so it might take a while to get back to you.

Step 2: Visit

If we contact you after receiving your email, we will make an appointment for you to come and meet the animal. You will absolutely need to come and visit the dog and take them out for a walk (preferably with other members of the household) and spend a little quality time with them. It’s important to get to know them a little before starting the rehoming procedure and making a decision that will affect you, the dog, and everyone in your home for many years to come.

We have a few special requests we hope you will consider before visiting. We would ask that children are supervised during visits, no fingers (especially little ones!) should be slipped through kennel bars/mesh and just to remember that loud noises and excitement may upset some of our animals.

Step 3: Book the animal

Before you adopt a dog or puppy from us we will ask you to complete the ‘Before you adopt form’.  This is done after you meet a dog and it is done at the centre. This is really a fact finder for us where we’ll ask a number of questions about your house, garden and circumstances, please answer these questions truthfully, they are designed to find the dog that suits you best and also the home that suits the dog best.

Step 4: Home check

We will carry out home checks for all dogs.  These should be nothing to worry about, the person who is going to visit you will ring and arrange a suitable time with you.  There’s no need to start hoovering the house or anything like that – we’re only there to have a casual chat and to see that the dog is going to be safe (and won’t escape through a back fence/bush while you’re out), and that they will be happy and comfortable in your home and be part of the family just as promised.

Step 5: Taking your animal home

Once a home check is completed, you come to the centre to take your new family member home and love him/her forever.

Donation

We ask people to make a donation of €200 when adopting a dog from ASH. Your donation goes towards kennelling, food, vet bills, spay/neuter, micro-chipping, deworming and vaccination of your dog. We are a non-profit organisation and these donations contribute, albeit in a small way, to help cover our running costs.
